چکیده

A new method to determine cloud liquid water profiles from multispectral microwave radiometer, millimeter wave radar and additional information is presented. Simultaneously the algorithm is able to retrieve temperature and water vapor profiles in a physical consisten way. The algorithm is applied to a case study during the BALTEX Bridge Campaign (BBC). The good performance even within a strong inversion on top of a thick cloud demonstrates the potential of combined remote sensing for continous monitoring of atmospheric profiles. Future develoment of the method could include additional intruments and are discussed.

Study of the snowmelt effects on surface and ground water in the Bahar basin using remote sensing data

According to recent Studies, about 60 percent of surface waters and 57 Percent ground waters are located in snowy zones in Iran. In most areas of northern hemisphere and alpine environment areas, snow melt lead to the maximum instantaneous flow rate and is an important part of annual discharge. The present study investigated the effect of snowmelt on the surface waters and ground waters in B...

Remote Sensing Based Retrieval of Snow Cover Properties Case Study (Shirkooh Mountain Yazd, Iran)

Snow cover area is one of the most important criteria to calculate snow melt runoff. This can have an effect on the biology of the plant and the environment of a region. Using the catchment basin physical characteristic to calculate snow cover area is a conventional method, though its accuracy is not good enough. Most of the useful methods in calculating snow cover area are based on satellite i...

A 10-Year Cloud Fraction Climatology of Liquid Water Clouds over Bern Observed by a Ground-Based Microwave Radiometer

Cloud fraction (CF) is known as the dominant modulator of Earth’s radiative fluxes. Ground-based CF observations are useful to characterize the cloudiness of a specific site and are valuable for comparison with satellite observations and numerical models. We present for the first time CF statistics (relative to liquid clouds only) for Bern, Switzerland, derived from the observations of a ground...

Improvements and complications involved with adding an 85-GHz channel to cloud liquid water radiometers

The improvement in cloud-liquid estimates by a microwave radiometer with the addition of measurements at 85 GHz is quantified. Atmospheric emission is simulated from radiosonde data at frequencies commonly used by ground-based water-vapor radiometers (22.235 and 31.65 GHz) and also at 85.5 GHz. Retrieval algorithms are developed from opacities based on full Mie extinction by cloud droplets and ...
